We know that 2025 technically started in January, but in for us here at the Shell it isn’t a new year until we have our first show!
Here’s a little wrap up of the 1st! (Okay fine, 2nd) month of 2025 at the Shell!
February 8th, we had the pleasure of hosting The Sprawl for the release of their new issue “In Progress.” Sprawl founder Mike Orellana is a friend of the Shell and has been joining us since we first hosted Rat Palace in July of 24’. Mike even wrote a little feature about us for the issue!
The Shell <3’s The Spawl!
The bill featured 4 acts!
Sophia Rogers (@sophiuhrogers) opened the night with her combination of melancholy vocals and bassy acoustic guitar. Sophia just dropped the alt-folk single ‘the Designer’ this last weekend. Look out for her at set with her full band at Brooklyn Music Kitchen on April 6th!
Next up, Dasi (@dasiseason)! They released their debut single ‘Direction’ in October and is crowdfunding an EP and Tour for the summer/fall of 2025. Dasi melds modern and psychedelic rock with their dynamic dual lead vocalists Naomi and Rosey!
Kamasaki Corporation (@kamasakicorporation) brought the jazz and funk to our third set of the evening. Somewhere between bossa nova and neo-soul, Kamasaki was one of the largest and vibiest bands we’ve hosted to date; at times packing 7 members onto our adorable little stage. Check out their new single ‘MOVING ON’ and Kamasaki ceo’s new album with jetexempt (@jetexempt) who was also featured during their set!
Golder (@golder_nyc) closed out OUR FIRST SHOW OF 2025 (!!!) with an energetic set of art-pop and punk. Golder released their EP ‘I’m So Shallow When I Think of Death’ at the end of 2024. We got our first mosh pit of the year and the energy stayed high till the end of the night. Golder is a playing little tour this weekend in New Brunswick, Philly and Pittsburg this weekend (Feb 27 - Mar 01) and on March 29th is playing a benefit for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at Rabbit Hole BK with Velvet, Holiem, and Sentiment!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support The Sprawl! And a special welcome to all of our new subscribers! We are so excited about all of the big things we have on the way in 2025! DIY is so vital to the times we are living in, and we can’t wait to give a platform to more artists. Keep an eye out for an announcement about our March show w/ Nailbiter.
